Introducing the Teacher
Having received a Bachelor of Arts from Stephen F. Austin State University, Payton Andrews is currently pursuing a master's degree in violin performance and pedagogy at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he is a recipient of the Takacs Chamber Society scholarship. He has played the violin for over twenty years, and as a younger student, he participated in many summer festivals, such as the Brevard Music Festival, Kinhaven school, and Meadowmount School of Music. In high school, Payton participated in regional and state orchestras, winning the position of concertmaster for the Texas All-State Philharmonic Orchestra in 2012. As an undergraduate, he served as concertmaster for the the university's Orchestra of the Pines and section member of his first professional ensemble, the Longview Symphony. He has taught both in and out of the university, leading sectional rehearsals for the Orchestra of the Pines and directing a small chamber orchestra at Regents Academy, a classical school in Nacogdoches, TX. His students have participated in regional orchestras and won great achievement in their high-school music programs.
In his free time, Payton enjoys "art days " with his friends, inviting them over to cook, paint, and sight-read quartets, sonatas, and trios, etc. He is often seen playing in public venues for the enjoyment of local tourists, and as a lover of the Colorado mountains, you may find him running up one of Boulder's many, beautiful mountain trails.
